Chiropractic care is about how your body moves and how to help it move better. If you are dealing with joint pain, stiffness or a movement that does not feel right, a chiropractor uses hands-on treatment, exercise and education to help you get back to what you want to do.
I am Dr. Alex Tremblett, a chiropractor at Beacon Physiotherapy in Tecumseh. Here is a plain description of what the care involves, so you know what to expect before you book.
What a chiropractor does
Chiropractic care combines a few things: hands-on treatment of joints and soft tissue, exercise you can do to support the change, and education so you understand what is going on and what helps.
People come in for a range of musculoskeletal issues: back pain, neck pain, shoulder problems, and general stiffness or reduced movement. The approach looks at both the symptom and the movement pattern behind it, because treating only the sore spot tends not to hold.
What to expect
The first visit is an assessment. I ask about your history and what you are trying to get back to, look at how you move, and then explain what I am seeing and what the options are. Treatment is a conversation, not something done to you.
The aim is not only to settle the current problem but to help you build strength and movement so it is less likely to keep coming back.
If your issue is hip or knee arthritis
Osteoarthritis has its own approach, and I have written about it separately, including the GLA:D program I run for hip and knee OA. If that is what you are dealing with, start there. [link to Post 1]
